I went on to earn both my Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Music (Jazz Concentration). Along the way, I struggled with bad habits, self-doubt, and the urge to compare myself to others—until a mentor shared three life-changing lessons that still guide me today:\n\n​\n\n\"Never compare yourself to others.\" There will always be someone ahead of you and someone behind you. Music isn’t a competition—it’s about growth, expression, and lifting others up alongside you.\n\n \n\n\"Don’t expect too much too fast.\" Progress takes time. Remember why you started in the first place and be patient with yourself.\n\n \n\n\"Learn to enjoy the process.\" This was the most valuable lesson of all. Growth doesn’t happen overnight, but if you love the journey, you’ll never stop improving.\n\nThese principles continue to guide my playing and teaching philosophy today.
